Team |

Physician
A physician who is a member of the UVSH medical staff will serve
as the primary physician during the hospital stay. This physician
will lead the treatment team by delivering a personalized and
progressive plan of care. Depending upon the patient’s
specific medical needs, he or she may be seen by other physicians
as well to guarantee complete treatment and maximize recovery.
Nursing
Along with other team members, the primary nurse manages the treatment
and personalizes the plan of care based upon medical needs. In
addition to the primary nurse, patient care technicians will provide
physical care and hygiene to maximize the patient’s comfort.
Case Manager
The case manager, together with the physician, ensures the patient’s
needs are met at UVSH. In addition to providing the patient and
family with progress reports, the case manager coordinates the
discharge needs and planning. The case manager is also available
to discuss insurance coverage and billing questions.
Physical and Occupational Therapists
Your physical therapist will work with you on any difficulties
you may experience with weakness, lack of mobility, movement, balance
and stamina. Your occupational therapist will help you learn and
carry out activities of daily living during your stay.
Speech-Language Pathologist
The speech-language pathologist will focus on any difficulties
that hinder the patient’s ability to speak or swallow, and
can help with any complications with reading, writing, understanding
or focusing that may have occurred as a result of the patient’s
medical condition.
Respiratory Therapist
Respiratory therapists provide specialized treatments and pulmonary
support required by the patient’s medical condition. For
patients on a ventilator, the respiratory therapist will work to
wean the patient off of the ventilator if possible. All ventilators
are equipped with monitors and alarms that will alert staff of
any problems.
Dietician
The dietician ensures that a therapeutic diet provides the patient
with the necessary nutrition to help in recovery. As the patient
progresses, the dietician will also work
with the speech-language pathologist to advance the diet safely.
Clinical Pharmacist
The clinical pharmacist works closely with the physician and nurses
to manage each patient’s complex medication needs.
Other Health Care Professionals
Other professionals are available to join the clinical team as
indicated by the patient’s health needs and goals.
